Die so genannte Konversion, also die Umnutzung des Militärareals, fand ihren krönenden Abschluss in der Landesgartenschau 2008, in die nicht nur das Areal des Wiley mit einbezogen wurde, sondern auch das sog. Vorfeld sowie ehemaliges Festungsgelände im Glacis.
Ziel war es, dem neu entstandenen Stadtviertel durch die großzügige Park- und Freizeitanlage sowie eine Rad- und Fußwegverbindung, die sog. „Grüne Brücke“ bis an die Donau, ein neues Gepräge zu geben und das Wiley zu einem attraktiven neuen Stadtteil zu machen.
The so-called conversion, i.e. the re-purposing of the military base, culminated in the development of the State Flower Show in 2008, in which not only the Wiley site but also the adjoining “Vorfeld” and former fortification sites in the Glacis were incorporated. The aim was to connect the newly developed Wiley Quarter with the town and to give it a new and attractive image by means of generous parks and recreational areas as well as a bike and pedestrian route, the so-called “green bridge” extending all the way to the Danube.
