Zu Beginn der 1950er-Jahre waren die Schranken noch kleiner. Über die Jahre hinweg, spätestens aber mit dem Einzug der Pershing-Atomsprengköpfe wurde das Wiley immer mehr zum Hochsicherheitsgelänge, und das kleine Pförtnerhäuschen am rechten Bildrand musste einem massiveren weichen.
Auch die Umzäunung des Wiley wurde nach und nach immer weiter verstärkt und ausgebaut. Die Hauptwache in der Bildmitte und die Kirche dahinter stehen hingegen heute noch.
At the beginning of the 1950’s the barrier gate was smaller. Over the years, at the latest after the stationing of Pershing nuclear warheads, Wiley became more and more of a high security site and the little porter’s lodge on the right edge of the picture was replaced by a more substantial one. The fencing around the Wiley was also gradually strengthened and extended. By contrast, the main guardhouse in the middle of the picture and the church behind it are still there today.
