1983 | 999 Luftballons

In 1983 the protests against the stationing of nuclear warheads in Germany culminated in arguably the most spectacular action of the peace movement. As early as Easter 1983 there were plans to completely surround the Wiley site with a human chain “hug”. In addition, 999 coloured balloons were to be released into the air (German pop singer Nena’s song “99 Luftballons (coloured balloons)” had hit the charts in January).
